Introduction
A legal treatise is a publication on a single topic or area of law that is written by experts in the field. Treatises are helpful secondary sources because they can provide in-depth and practical information on a subject and often provide useful references or citations to other relevant secondary sources or primary authority.
Treatises may consist of single volume monographs or multi-volume sets. The Chastek Library print collection contains treatises on the subjects contained in this guide, and many can be found in the Advocacy section on the second floor of the library. Full-text of selected treatises may be found in our online subscription databases.
