The Uniform Bar Exam is administered twice a year (February and July) by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) over the course of two days. The exam consists of three parts: the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), the Multistate Essay Exam (MEE), and the Multistate Practice Test (MPT). Information about admission to the bar examination can be found here. |
Multistate Bar Exam (MBE)
The Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) is a six-hour exam consisting of 200 multiple-choice questions covering Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Criminal Law and Procedure, Evidence, Real Property, and Torts.
The Multistate Essay Exam
The Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) consists of six 30-minute essay questions that tests the applicant's ability to spot legal issues and present arguments in a clear, concise, and well-organized essay.
The Multistate Practice Test (MPT)
The Multistate Practice Test (MPT) consists of two 90-minute questions to test an applicant's skills in a practice-oriented situation. In states administering the UBE, this portion typically accounts for 20% of the overall exam score.
