Student Employee Orientation



Please arrive at work dressed professionally. Appropriate appearance is part of good customer service. If your supervisor feels that you are dressed inappropriately, you may be asked to go home and change. Guidelines include:

  • No bare midriff, plunging neckline, or excessive bare leg.
    • Shorts must be worn to mid-thigh or longer.
  • No tank tops or muscle shirts without an appropriate cover.
  • Pants worn high enough so as not to show boxers.
  • No hats with bills or brims that may restrict eye contact with patrons.
    • Hats may be worn backwards. Beanies allowed.
  • Inappropriate clothing logos - no profanity or obscenity.

Keep in mind that our library serves local and regional law professionals including attorneys and judges. Please dress professionally. 


Behaviors that infringe upon the rights of library users or staff are prohibited. These include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Create disturbances
  • Exhibit intimidating or threatening behavior to others through language or actions
  • Disturb students with unwanted advances, questioning, or solicitation of legal advice
  • Make harassing, unrealistic demands of library staff for any reason, including seeking inappropriate types of assistance with legal research or legal questions
  • Inappropriate computer use
  • Deface or damage library materials, furnishings, or equipment
  • Talk on cell phones
  • Use tobacco products or e-cigarettes
  • Disturb others with strong odors, e.g., perfumes, alcohol, or personal hygiene conditions
  • Vend, peddle, solicit, or petition in the library
  • Leave personal belongings unattended
  • Enter areas not authorized for public use such as the study rooms, computer lab, and staff areas
  • Refuse to comply with posted public hours

In addition, library users must comply with all other library policies and signage.


Chastek Library has a "No Tobacco Use" policy. This includes e-cigarettes, vapes, cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, dissolvable tobacco products, and traditional smokeless tobacco products like chewing tobacco and snuff. You may not use these items at the desk, in the library, or in the stairwells of the library. The smoking area for the law school is located outside the entrance by Cafe Lawte and the Center for Professional Development. For additional information on what constitutes a 'tobacco product',
