Bar Exam Preparation Guide

This guide provides information about the Uniform Bar Exam administered in Washington and other states, and highlights many of the bar exam preparation material located in the library. Many of these resources are focused on components of the Uniform Bar Exam and general exam strategies for success.

The Uniform Bar Exam is administered twice a year (February and July) by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) over the course of two days. The exam consists of three parts: the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), the Multistate Essay Exam (MEE), and the Multistate Practice Test (MPT).

Multistate Bar Exam (MBE)

The Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) is a six-hour exam consisting of 200 multiple-choice questions covering Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Criminal Law and Procedure, Evidence, Real Property, and Torts.

The Multistate Essay Exam

The Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) consists of six 30-minute essay questions that tests the applicant's ability to spot legal issues and present arguments in a clear, concise, and well-organized essay.

The Multistate Practice Test (MPT)

The Multistate Practice Test (MPT) consists of two 90-minute questions to test an applicant's skills in a practice-oriented situation. In states administering the UBE, this portion typically accounts for 20% of the overall exam score.
