CHECKING OUT MATERIALS

Click into "Fulfillment" on the upper bar.

Then, click "Manage Patron Services".

From here, you will either type in the student/faculty number, type in their name, or scan their card. Then click "Go".

Once you have entered into the patron's account page (pictured below), scan the barcode of the book or item that they wish to check out. Make sure that the barcode correctly scanned and that the item has been entered onto their account. An easy way of doing this is to look for the title and check the due date for any irregularities. If everything looks good, stamp the due date log inside the front of the book, desensitize the item, and hand it to the patron.

RETURNING AN ITEM

Click into "Fulfillment" and then "Return Items".

Scan the barcode of the item you are wanting to return. Verify that it came up on screen and then sensitize it before placing it on the circulation cart.

REGISTERING A NEW USER

On the "Managing Patron Services" page, click "Register New User"

It will take you to a blank form screen where you will fill in all of the information with a red asterisk * next to it. Once completed, click "Update User" in the upper right.

Now your new patron will be able to check items out of the library.

Please check circulation policies pertaining to state bar users and alumni before issuing a library card.

CHECKING FOR PATRON ITEM REQUESTS

Under the "Fulfillment" tab, click "Pick From Shelf". This shows what items have been requested from Chastek Library and need to be picked off the shelf to fulfill the request.

This will take you to a page where all item requests are shown.

Please write the Call Number and location down then go grab the item and bring it back to the desk.

Click the "Scan In Item" option.

This will take you to a page where you will scan in the barcode of the item request.

Click "OK" and it will register that you have just scanned in a requested item. It will give you the title of the item, where it should be going, and who has requested it.

CHECKING THE HOLD SHELF

There are 2 reports that should be checked regularly:

  1. Expired Hold Shelf
  2. Active Hold Shelf

Expired Hold Shelf

The items listed under these two links are being held for patrons and awaiting pickup. If an item is still listed under "Expired Hold Shelf" and it is 30 days passed due for pickup, remove the hold on that item by clicking "Reshelve".

When you click "Reshelve" it will return the item location in the catalog to "Item in Place" and the physical item must be reshelved. Below is an image of the catalog record stating that the item status is "Item in Place".

Active Hold Shelf

The "Active Hold Shelf" lists all items that should be awaiting pickup by patrons. These items have been requested, pulled from the shelf, and scanned in following the "Pick From Shelf" steps listed above.

Check the note section before placing the item on the physical hold shelf - instructors especially will request that an item be placed on faculty reserve instead of being put aside for patron pickup.

Next, we will discuss how to clear an "Active Hold Shelf" listing by scanning out an item on hold.

SCANNING OUT AN ITEM ON HOLD

If someone comes into the library to pick up an item that they have placed on hold. Follow the steps that you learned in "Checking out Materials." Once the patron has picked up their item and it is on their account - the hold will clear off of the "Active Hold Shelf."
